第四季改編自“那不勒斯四部曲”最后一部《失蹤的孩子》，故事繼續(xù)深入萊農(nóng)（阿爾芭·羅爾瓦赫爾飾）和莉拉（艾琳·馬伊奧里諾飾）的成人生活。她們發(fā)現(xiàn)自己被卷入了1980年代末意大利的混亂之中，此時持續(xù)幾十年的政治暴力和社會動蕩即將結(jié)束。在母愛和事業(yè)的雙重壓力下，面對背叛、威脅、失蹤和自然災(zāi)害，埃萊娜和莉拉再次住進了同一個社區(qū)。
